Research
Ossis research has a strong emphasis on understanding why some networks of firms perform better than others. He keeps current on this interdisciplinary topic by reviewing articles from several fields, such as strategic management, marketing, economics and sociology. He has a strong background in quantitative tools. His interests are more in the philosophical tradition rather than the technical. Ossi is also active in projects that relate to tourism and experience production in general. These involve cooperation and service quality, regional attitudes, composition of boards of directors. Several of the projects are also currently in development for an international replication through Experience Stratos.
Biography
Dr. Ossi Pesämaa is currently active in research at the Centre for Innovation Systems, Entrepreneurship and Growth (CISEG) and affiliated to Entrepreneurship Marketing and Management (EMM) at Jönköping International Business School. Ossi perform his directed research for two different institutes Experience Industries Development Institute (EIDI) and Research Unit for Rural Entrepreneurship and Growth (RUREG). The emphasis on Ossis projects are tourism, innovative entrepreneurial marketing quality systems, regional growth and experience industries.
Ossi received a Ph.D. from Lulea University of Technology where his thesis examined how cooperative networks develop. His research has been published in Management Decision, World Journal of Tourism and Small Business Management, Construction Management and Economics. Ossi also has several contributions in accepted for publication in for instance Scandinavian Journal of Hospitality and Tourism, Tourism Communication and Culture, International Journal of Hospitality Knowledge Management, and Papers in Regional Science. On his list of publications there is also several book chapters and conference papers. Ossi is also active member of Experience Stratos, which have a strong emphasis on promoting small business and regional growth in the area of tourism and other experience industries. Ossi is strongly internationally oriented and has so far conducted his research with colleagues from various countries. He is invited as a guest scholar to several universities and has in the past conducted research in U.S (University of Minnesota Duluth), cooperated for a long time with professor Joseph Hair Jr (Kennesaw State University Coles College in the US) professor Antti Haahti (University of Lapland in Finland), and supported studies in Turkey and Portugal.
