Andreas Stephan
Professor of Economics
Biography
Andreas Stephan earned a Master of Science in Business and Engineering at the Berlin University of Technology and received a Ph.D. in Economics at the Humboldt University Berlin. He previously held positions at the Social Science Research Center Berlin (WZB), at the German Institute for Economic Research (DIW) and as a junior professor of Economics at the European University Viadrina in Frankfurt/Oder. He is currently also a visiting scholar of the European School of Management and Technology (ESMT). He is affiliated with CESIS, Centre of Excellence for Science and Innovation Studies at the Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm and CISEG, Centre for Innovation Systems, Entrepreneurship and Growth, Jönköping.
Since 2008, he is a member of the management team of the Centre for Transport Studies (CTS) at the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH), Stockholm. He is the research coordinator for the focus area Transport and Regional Development.
Research
Andreas Stephan’s main research fields are innovation, firm performance, infrastructure, network industries, competition, productivity and efficiency analysis. He has published in Journals, e.g., Applied Economics, Economic Inquiry, Economic Modelling, Journal of Futures Markets, Journal of Public Economics, Kyklos, Papers in Regional Science, Public Choice and Research Policy. He has also conducted various consultancy projects for German ministries and government agencies. Additionally, he has received research grants from institutions, e.g., the German Science Foundation (DFG), the Anglo-German Foundation and the European Investment Bank.
Teaching
His teaching spectrum encompasses courses in statistics, microeconometrics, parametric and non-parametric efficiency analysis, structural equation modelling, industrial organization and European competition policy at undergraduate and graduate level. At JIBS, he teaches courses, e.g., Innovation, Trade and Location, Frontiers of Economics Research and Advanced Research Methods.
