When do I have to be finished with my bachelor degree?
If you will graduate sometime in spring/summer 2010 your university must send a certificate to the central Admissions office indicating that it is expected that you will graduate in the spring/summer 2010.
The letter must contain your personal data and is essential for matching the actual documents with your application. You will get your personal data when you have sent your application on-line. The on-line application will be available on December 1, 2009. Details on application process will be available at that time.
What are certified copies?
Your high school diploma and bachelor diploma with transcripts MUST be certified and stamped by an official authority in your country, such as a notary public. The documents should be in the original language, and in officially certified translations into Swedish, English, French or German, if the documents are issued in any other language than the Scandinavian languages.
All documents must contain your personal data and is essential for matching the actual documents with your application. You will get your personal data when you have sent your application on-line.
What are the language requirements?
Go to Language Requirements
It is recommended that one starts the procedure of sitting for the tests as soon as possible, since this may be long to carry out depending on when the test center offer opportunities to write.
The TOEFL and Cambridge/Oxford test results must come from the test centre directly to the admissions office.
A copy of the IELTS test result is enough.
*The test result can’t be older than two years.
How do I proceed to take the necessary tests?
TOEFL: See http://www.ets.org/. Studera.nu (Higher Education in Sweden, VHS) has code 9520.
If you have applied through our local Admissions Office (only EU/EEA-applicants) JIBS code is 8487.
IELTS: See http://www.ielts.org/
Does my TOEFL/IELTS score count in the overall evaluation?
There is a keen competition to a limited number of places. A language test score can thus be taken into account when an overall evaluation between students’ competitiveness must be considered.
Can I send certified copies of my TOEFL/IELTS tests?
Not for TOEFL and Cambridge/Oxford, originals must be sent to the Admissions Office by the test centre.
You can send in a copy of your IELTS test result
The tests must have been taken after January 2008.
What score must I have?
Go to Language Requirements
Do I need a GMAT and/or GRE score?
No
Shall I send in my CV or motivation letter?
No, we will only look at your Bachelor diploma, transcripts, High School diploma and English proficiency.
Can I send in documentation by fax, e-mail, or electronically scanned
No. Applications sent by fax, e-mail, or electronically scanned will not be accepted.
The applicant must sign the application form and send all certified application documents by post.
Applications must be sent by the applicant only and not through intermediates.
Can I transfer any courses/credits?
No. You must apply to and start a whole programme from the beginning. It can be possible to transfer courses/credits when you have started a programme.
When does the academic year start?
Students can arrive during the weekend preceding the induction week, which starts in August, 2010 for master students. If you wish to be part of the pick-up service it is important to arrive during this weekend. Individual accommodation distribution will be available during certain service hours during the induction week. There will be no pick up service then.
Are there any scholarships available?
We don’t have any tuition-fees at JIBS so we have no scholarships.
The Swedish Institute www.si.se (SI) offers a restricted number of
scholarships for master studies (very few). If, as a master student, you wish to be part of the SI scholarship programme, you must send with your application documents addressed to the admissions office, half a page indicating name, address, date of birth, gender, citizenship, the study programme you wish to apply to, and a short description of why you wish to be part of the SI scholarship programme.
JIBS cannot offer on campus jobs.
How much money do I need for living costs?
Students pay for housing, literature, and other living expenses themselves.
These costs are estimated to be about SEK 7000 a month. Students from outside EU must obtain a student VISA, in which they can show that they can pay for their living expenses in Sweden during their studies. Look further at www.migrationsverket.se
How can I get accommodation?
The university guarantees accommodation to international students who have been accepted to JIBS and apply for accommodation before the accommodation application deadline. Rent can be in the range between 2.000 to 3.500 SEK per month depending on location, size, furniture, etc. The rent usually includes electricity, heating, and water. Telephone installation is charged extra. Some apartments might be unfurnished. The quality of housing varies significantly. Available housing is distributed on a “first come, first serve” basis. Be also aware that due to the amount of international students at JIBS you may first receive a temporary housing for the first weeks until permanent housing can be found for you. The temporary housing costs are approximately the same as the costs of the permanent housing.
Do I need to know Swedish?
No. All instructions is done in English, and all JIBS correspondence to students is done in English. English is JIBS language. Within Jönköping and Sweden most people speak English very well. However, it is recommended that students who may want to work and live in Sweden after their studies learn some Swedish.
JIBS provide Swedish courses for our International students. A course starts in the second half of the first semester. It is also tuition-free.
May I work part-time while doing my studies?
If you are a full-time student you may work in Sweden without a work permit for the period of your student visa. For more information see www.migrationsverket.se.
JIBS cannot answer any questions about residence permits, visas etc.
If I have other questions, who do I contact?
If you wish to ask further questions after having applied you must ALWAYS indicate to which programme you have applied/are admitted to together with the application number that will be given you once you have sent in your on-line application, which will be available in December 2009. This will allow JIBS and the Admissions Office, admissions.office@hj.se to answer your request more efficiently. You can also contact tomas.bengtsson@jibs.hj.se for your questions.
