The Doctoral Programme

A doctoral degree from JIBS will offer you a whole host of opportunities for the future, either in academic positions in international work environments, or in other positions where your research skill is demanded. As a doctoral student you can expect

full-time employment, where at least 70 % of your time is devoted to your doctoral studies,

a regular evaluation of your performance, and a clear statement of our demands upon doctoral students.
The aim of the doctoral programme is to provide the student with advanced knowledge within his/her field of research, skills to pursue independent research, and finally competence to contribute to the development of the scientific field.
As a doctoral student at JIBS you are expected to combine teaching with your studies. The employment for each year is divided into at least 70% of your time reserved for your studies and the rest for teaching and administrative tasks. The doctoral position will demand intensive study and a willingness to participate in other general activities within the organisation. Employment as a doctoral student is for one year at a time and extensions depend on the progress you make in your studies according to your individual study plan.
Courses and theses
The
Doctoral programme is made up of 80 points in courses and 80 points for
the thesis for all disciplines except Commercial Law. There are both
compulsory and optional courses.
The thesis has to be written in English. There is also the possibility of taking a licentiate (which is 40 points in courses and 40 points for the thesis).
Studying abroad
All
doctoral students are given good opportunities to study elective
courses abroad at one of our growing number of partner universities.
Furthermore, international researchers are invited as visiting
professors.
