Börje Johansson
Professor of Economics
Börje Johansson is professor of Economics at the Jönköping International Business School (JIBS) and guest professor at the division of Economics at the Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm (KTH). At the same place he is also director of CESIS, Centre of Excellence for Science and Innovation Studies, sharing his time between KTH and JIBS.
He received his PhD at the University in Gothenburg in 1978 and was acting professor in Regional economics at the University of Umeå in 1979. At the same university he has been director of the Centre of Regional Science and professor of Regional economics.
In 1982 he joined the international institute IIASA and was in charge of the Regional Development Program. Later he was appointed professor at the University of Trondheim in Norway as well as adjunct professor at the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm. He has spent research periods at the Tottori and Kyoto Universities in Japan, at CSIRO (Melbourne) and the University of Western Australia (Perth) in Australia and Boston University in the USA. He has also been host scientist of the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS-grant).
Börje Johansson has been member of the Transportation Economics Advisory Group of the Swedish Transport Research Board, member of the Committee for research on natural resources and environment of the Swedish Council for Coordination of Research (FRN), and he is editor of the international journal Annals of Regional Science (Springer-Verlag). In Sweden he has carried out major projects on high-speed train development and on transport policies for the National Swedish Road Authority.
